The PHARE program (abbreviation for "pole and and Hungary: Aid for Restructuring OF the Economies", English for "Poland and Hungary: Assistance for the restructuring of the economy") is one of three instruments of the European union, in order to support the entry preparations of the countries willing to join in central and Eastern Europe. The most important fields of activity are the administrative structure, investment aid for infrastructures as well as the regional development. The financing is made thereby by not repayable subsidies. For the years 2000 to 2006 an annual budget is intended of 1,6 billion ".
In the year 1989 PHARE was called to the support by Poland and Hungary in the life. On a conference of the European advice 1994 an extension of the program was decided, in order to include further entry candidates. At present three countries are integrated in this program: Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia. For the eight in the year 2004 joined member states Czech republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Litauen, Poland, Slowakei and Slowenien the aid programme runs out.
