When one designates pilot project "“generally full-scale tests or Demonstrationsprojekte, which are set with socially, economical and technically risky developments before the general introduction, around questions of the acceptance, economy, the market potential and the technical optimization in the field test [...] to test"” (skin tree 1981/82, P. 88).

In order to obtain with pilot projects meaningful results, must be analyzed in an appropriate program research (Begleitforschung).
