The place car CarSharing AG is a Car sharing offerer and 1988 in Berlin as place car CarSharing GmbH von Markus Petersen was based. Thus it was the first Car sharing enterprise in Germany.

Four years later then in Hamburg the place car CarSharing registered association was created, which fused 1998 with the citizens of Berlin GmbH to place car the CarSharing AG.

In the year 2000 the enterprise turned out then into a strong financial crisis, which could be turned away only by the renouncement of the shareholders of its inserts. By a profound reorganization concept and place car could be saved to the participation of the CollectCar B.V. (a GmbH arising in the Netherlands under the mark Greenwheels), existing since 2004, nevertheless.

Since at the end of December 2005 belongs the place car CarSharing AG to 100% the CollectCar B.V., which in January 2006 also Shell drive Germany GmbH transferred. At the beginning of March 2006 was renamed the citizens of Berlin subsidiary in Greenwheels AG. Together with the Greenwheels GmbH (before times shell drive Germany) Greenwheels thereby educates the largest CarSharing offerer of Germany, with 20.000 customers and over 500 vehicles in 7 Lands of the Federal Republic, among them Berlin, Hamburg, Saxonia, Bavaria and various cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

To history the place cars CarSharing AG belongs also the place car Berlin registered association, an association, which should guarantee the contact between company and customer and/or shareholders. The function this (in the history of the German AGs of nevertheless very singular) association is unfortunately outdated with the complete assumption the place cars CarSharing AG.
