Politics of the calm hand designate the economic policy of Federal Chancellor Gerhard in the years 2001 and 2002.

The term coined/shaped by themselves marks the principle of his politics of these years for not reacting to short term economic development rushed into. The opposition criticized the "“policy of the calm hand"” as inactivity, after before the Red-Green coalition, partly by the same persons, was criticized for the fact that it would have activated too many reform projects at one time and too fast.

In March 2003 the "“policy of the calm hand"” was replaced by the agenda 2010.
