Posamenten, from which French passement, are so-called trimming articles such as a fraying, edgings, cords, Quasten, and the like, which are used as Zierde for furniture and space equipment and in former times also frequently for uniforms.
"Passements" only from (noble) metal wires worked textiles were original. The mode of production of these original Metallgewirke affected the point production substantially, because with the Posamentrie was it possible a figurales textile to be manufactured, without with it on a carrier reason being dependent (the counterpart represents the embroidery, here is term necessary the carrier reason as the embroidered.). The same principle controls the point production.
Cords, Quasten and such come over the metal wire into the Posamentiererhandwerk, because they were in former times manufactured to the majority from metal wires.
The partially exclusive use of fibers, as it happens today occasionally, is only a following development and actually separates the Posament from its original material.
Posamenten of the Posamentierer in manual work and with rope machines, braiding machines or effect machines are manufactured. The bloom time of the profession was in 19. Century.
In Austria the Posamentrie is led as own industry within the textile-producing trade. In the ore mountains the center of the Posamenten and the effects production lay in the mine city Anna mountain book wood.
