The pressing and information officer (from the English press & information Officer, briefly PIO) or Public information Officer is a staff officer function in military federations, mostly starting from the division level.
In the armies of the Nato states it concerns the person responsible for medium contacts, who serves usually as a speaker of its commander.
In Swiss army the PIO on stage battalion is a specializedtechnical advisor of the commander for all questions of the internal (own troop units) and external communication, i.e. with medium representatives. It works on also editorial contributions for print and electronic media.
