With modern typewriters a print wheel (English comes daisy wheel, literally: wheel) as carriers of the representable indications (types) to the employment. The indications are in a circle arranged around the center of the print wheel. The indication wished in each case is brought in position and printed by appropriate turn by an electromagnetically operated pin and over a ribbon on the paper. By exchange of the print wheel the character font can be changed.

Typewriter manufacturers offered printers with a Typenraddruckwerk and typewriters with prop. guessing eras an interface in the start time of the personal computers also for the computer. At this time the matrix printer was in the lower price segment the competitive system. Wheel printers could compete here with a better typeface, were however reduced to the character set of the print wheel.
