The Pro-Kopf-Einkommen is the income, which a person and/or an employee of a country earns on the average in the year. It results from the national income divided by the total population.

It is decided to differentiate of gross domestic product and/or gross national income (= gross national product).

For international comparisons Pro-Kopf-Einkommen are converted into a uniform currency. Frequently for it the US Dollar is used. Since this appropriately does not consider the different purchasing power in the different countries, however a conversion in purchasing power parities is to be preferred.

Nevertheless the prosperity of the population cannot be read off particularly well from the Pro-Kopf-Einkommen. So the income can be more or less unequally distributed within the population. Also it does not state anything over the fortune already existing (e.g. real estates) of the population.
