Under a process progress (lat. procedere =; PPP: processus) one understands a defined operational sequence about conditions of a system.

Determined and stochastic processes

  • Determined processes are such, with which each condition comes out clearly from it preceding the condition.
  • Stochastic processes however have the special actually that the conditions of a system follow them only with a certain probability from those conditions preceding.

Technical processes should be as deterministic as possible, apply in particular to processes, which are steered by software. Stochastics is the conceptual name for a rather coincidental behavior with same input conditions which due to programming errors is possible and is to be avoided.

Determined processes represent often only idealizations of real processes, since in the long run each process represents a unit of necessary and coincidental changes, i.e. is stochastic after its nature. It becomes generally accepted increasingly the view that in the long run all processes are stochastic and/or statistic processes. Determined processes in the sense of the classical mechanics are even in the field of physics an exception, a border line, a more or less exact approximation to the mathematical-abstract determined process. In practice the science and technology tries one to transform stochastic processes by the most different system-theoretical and mathematical aids approximate into determined processes which are theoretically and practically substantially better controllable.

Description of the supervisor states by means of operators

In the simplest case an operator so mentioned lets itself be indicated, that, applied to a condition of the system, leads clearly to another condition of the system. If the quantity of the conditions of a system is well-known and are if the operators, that transfer these conditions into one another, definable, then the entire process can be represented clearly mathematically.
