Product responsibility designates the responsibility, which meets the manufacturer or the dealer of a product regarding this product in the completely general sense. Product responsibility is primarily a political term, only in second line also legal.
In the political connection mostly the speech is from product responsibility if products have errors, which show up only with the use and thus damage angerichten. Examples for this, which excite always large public attention, are medicament scandals, like the side effects of the medicine Lipobay recognized too late or - from earlier years - Contergan-Skandal.Die appointment to the product responsibility have mostly the purpose to stop manufacturers of products, which can possibly cause damage, to larger care in product Design and in production. In the last years further meanings of the term were added. On the one hand one names those the manufacturers imposed responsibility for the fact that a product can to be disposed after its use without loss. This is legally regulated in "§22 of the cycle economic and waste law. On the other hand with it requirements can to the product to be meant, which nothing with its adequacy do have in a many broader sense, but are placed against the production process. An example of it is the expectation of many consumers that products are not manufactured by Kinderarbeit; a further expectation at food that their production is to take place environmentalcarefully. The fulfilment of such "additional" requirements of a particularly responsible production way is documented by the economy so far particularly by means of freiwilliger quality seals. There are the most well-known for the ranges to environment ("blue angel") and food ("bio character after and several, of privately carried producer and trading organisations like e.g. "bio country"), further within the range textiles.
