The term of productive forces covers all natural, technical, organizational and mental-scientific resources, which are to a society in their respective production way and production conditions embodied in it if necessary for reproduction and for the increase of the gross national product at the disposal. From the classical political economy - the forerunner of the modern political economy - that is common very many more closely seized and therefore not than synonym term which can be understood "„factors of production "“.

The most important productive forces of a society are well trained, work-willing humans, who carry appropriate work out according to their qualification and talents and from it a work-promoting, socially balanced earned income and a social acknowledgment draw. By the productive strength of the work"…

Means of production and/or media are a component of the productive forces. They are in the transferred sense condensers, which store works and other potentials up to their use, usable in the production process. Working humans, who work in the production process as primary Kraft, set the potentials and stored achievements free available in the media, i.e. their productive forces.

Also raw materials and software are a component of the productive forces, as far as they were recognized and/or developed as such and ready for the use.

The discovery of new raw materials, new raw material occurrences as well as technical and organizational innovations extend and strengthen the productive forces of a society.
