Project abort is the abnormal termination of a project, before the aims of the project are reached, because it is to be foreseen that these cannot be achieved not or at least in the context of the time and means planned for the project. The project abort can be the last consequence of the steering committee, if supercritical a project become appears no longer reorganizable or the will does not exist for reorganization.

If several contracting parties are involved in a project, frequently a back completion is introduced, whereby on hard negotiations concerning the payment of achievements of the contractor already transacted and the contributory negligence of the client at the project abort is to be counted. Pretty often a project abort leads also to the law case. To that extent - beside the abrupt end of the work on a setting of tasks - a project abort represents frequently a high psychological load of all project-taken part.
