The Projektportfoliomanagement is a particularly important subtask multi-project management.

A substantial goal of the Projektportfoliomanagements is it to find and/or select the correct projects. These projects form then the Projektportfolio. Thus the Projektportfoliomanagement aims particularly at a higher effectiveness of the project economy, while with the project management generally above all the efficient conversion of projects is the center of attention.

Demarcation

While the project management of single projects or programs (see program management) ends with the conclusion of the projects (life way orientation), acts it itself with the Projektportfoliomanagement around a permanent task, which is cyclically repeated.

Somewhat more generally regarded one can understand permanent planning, prioritization, spreading controlling and monitoring of all projects of an organization or an final subrange of an organization by Projektportfoliomanagement.

To the tasks of the Projektportfoliomanagements belong

• the definition from projects and programs to the conversion of the superordinate organization goals,
• the evaluation of requested projects,
• the grant, postponement and refusal of project requests,
• the current monitoring of projects from the view of the clients,
• the perception of spreading project and tasks of quality management as well as
• the project-spreading information and knowledge management.
