The word "“refugee document of identification"” is used mostly synonymously for the travel document of identification for refugees. It can concern in addition, a purely domestically usable document of identification, which some states issue according to the article 27 that Geneva refugee convention or comparable domestic regulations to refugees, and from which the refugee characteristic comes out. In particular reason for the exhibition can be that a refugee exeptionally no travel document of identification for refugees is issued.

In the right of the Federal Republic of Germany is not intended that refugees beside the travel document of identification for refugees and apart from a residence title receive a special document of identification, made of which the refugee characteristic comes out.
