The US firm E. Remington & Sons, actually armament makers, brought the first commercially usable typewriter to 1873 on the market. 1925 produced it the first electrical typewriter.
The first typewriters manufactured in large series was the Remington No. 1, which had been developed 1874 under the direction of Christopher Latham Sholes. Into it the experiences of almost thirty predecessor models had flowed. The Remington No. 1 had 44 keys and could only capital letters write. By a foot pedal the retreat was made. The Remington No. 2 appeared 1878 and could be switched between large and small letters and be transported the ribbon independently. In addition it had already the QWERTY keyboard.
