Residual risk the endangerment is called, an activity, a method, a procedure or (technical) a process after the conditions of the science with application of all theoretically possible safety precautions still adheres (scientifically conceivable precautions).

Since the conditions of the science are not to be carried out technically, the formulation becomes "“conditions of the science with particularly security relevant procedures and technology"” (technically conceivable precautions) and with less dangerous procedures state of the art (technically feasible precautions) uses.

The definition of the residual risk is consulted during the view of risk and weighed out against the possible damage and their probability of entrance.

Since in many ranges damage weight and probability of damage are very small, for the most activities, method, procedures or (technical) process a threshold risk is specified (economically justifiable precautions).
