Rheinisch Institut for economic research (RWI meal) belongs to the six large research institutes for economics of the Federal Republic of Germany (whereby sixth Institut for economic research resounds in the course of the German reunification was added).

The RWI meal understands itself as modern center for scientific research and evidence-based political counselling. Guidance motive for coming the years is the research to "“individual and politico-economic courses of action in the demographic and social change"”. To it the emphasis of the work aligns itself, which is bundled in the following research fields: individual in the demographic change (jurisdictions of job markets, population and social safety device as well as migration, integration and education); Empirical (jurisdictions business startup and enterprise development, handicraft and new technologies as well as environment and resources); (jurisdictions growth and economic situation as well as state activity, public finances and taxes); Data.

Institut was created 1926 of Walther as "“department of the west"” of the "“institute for market research"” (today's German Institut for economic research), Berlin. Since 1943 it works legally independently as registered association. It serves non-profit purposes. President is Professor Dr. Christoph M. Schmidt. Further members of the executive committee are professors Thomas the farmer and Wim The RWI meal has about eighty coworkers, of it more than fifty scientists. The basic financing is carried to the half by the federation and to the half from the countries, in addition comes among other things third means from appraisals.

Activities:

  • Community diagnosis
  • Among other things Institut maintains an overall economic model, which is based on quarterly numbers of the economical Gesamtrechnung. This model is used accompanying to the economic situation prognosis and to evaluation of politico-economic measures.
  • Working group tax estimation: The RWI meal is member in "„the working group tax estimation "“, in which experts prognosticate the tax receipts for the public hand annually in May and November.
  • CO2-Monitoring: On behalf the Federal association of the German industry, the Federal Ministry for environment, nature protection and reactor safety as well as the Bundesministerius for economics and technology the RWI meal supervises the adherence to Kyoto minutes within the range CO2-Minderung by the German economy.
  • ESF evaluation: On behalf the Federal Ministry for economics and technology (BMWi) the RWI examines the effectiveness of the measures of the European social fund (ESF) of the promotion period 2000 to 2006 in Germany.
  • Networks: The RWI exchanges itself regularly with other scientific institutions, co-operates with many other research establishments and is member in research networks, among other things member in the Project LEFT (world-wide group of models) as well as member of the European Economic network (YOUR).
  • Promotion of young people: Together with the universities the RWI meal created Bochum, Duisburg meal and Dortmund in October 2004 the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ). It takes up each year eight graduate students, who are led in three years to the doctor title. The RGS Econ is an initiative of universities and non-university Forschungsinstitut, singular in their kind.
