The RLD procedure (English Randomized load digit: coincidental last number) is a procedure for the determination of samples with (computer Assisted of telephones interview) - questionings in the context of the market study.

Principle

Here a coincidental telephone number is generated, by adding the last number of any call number with a random number between 1 and 9 or these from it subtracted. Thus also such households receive a chance to arrive into (telephone) the sample which are not in the directory (participants with "“unlisted numbers"”).

Example

With the existing call number 0511 - 555 1234 7 the last number becomes - 7 - by a number replaces, which results from subtraction with the random number 6: 0511 - 555 1234 1

Meaning

Because meanwhile over 80% of all telephone customers no more are registered in the official directory, this method of the generation of sample becomes ever more important, since large differences between the soziodemografischen structure exist registered and registered households.

The RLD procedure was developed in the USA and is used meanwhile from nearly all prominent market and polling institutes.
