The RTL Group (derived from radio Luxembourg) is the largest European operator of advertising-financed private television and private radio. It maintains 34 television stations and 34 radio stations in 11 countries. Further business fields are television production and right trade.
Managing director of the RTL Group is Gerhard Zeiler.
The RTL Group developed in the year 2000 from the fusion of the CLT-UFA with the British society Pearson TV. In February 2001 the Bertelsmann AG transferred through a stock swap with the Belgian Groupe Bruxelles Lambert (GBL) the majority from 67 % the RTL Group. In January 2002 the assumption of further 22 % of Pearson followed.
2005 was taken over further 37.3 % the BW-TV, getting thing, which was held to 80 % by Bertelsmann and to 20 % of the WAZ. The commitment in the BW-TV was hereby terminated. Bertelsmann holds today 90.4 % of the portions. Strewing possession: 9,6 % - of it 0.7 % are kept common of the RTL Group and CLT-UFA as own portions.
