With the rank the order of rank of persons is specified to each other particularly with the military as well as at certain authorities. Usually the rank is shown by badges or characteristics at the uniform or the head coverage. Also different university forming characteristics can give information on the rank.

A higher rank does not cause inevitably also an assumption relationship. This can be justified rather also by the utility position. It is thus possible, although very uncommonly that rank-lower authority opposite a has.

Typical utility positions are for example company commander, battalion commander or Kommandierender general.

Rank insignias can appear at the written undertaking, at the sleeve or on the shoulder (shoulder straps). They can be or eingeschlauft sewn on (material badges).

Military ranks

The military rank is entitled to each Kombattanten, in particular members of regular armed forces. It facilitates the classification of the individual soldier into the military hierarchy. The typical organization of the ranks with the military is summarized in groups of careers. Usually there are three groups of careers: Crews, NCOs and officers.

Within the groups of careers of the officers and NCOs the ranks are again in grade categories divided.

  • In the group of careers of the NCOs there are the NCOs without Portepee and the NCOs with Portepee.
  • In the group of careers of the officers there are the grade categories of the second lieutenants, the main people, staff officers and generals/admirals.
