Santorio Santorio (* 29. March 1561 Cap d"´Istria (at that time to Venice, today belonging to Koper, Croatia); "† 22 February 1636 in Venice) was an Italian physician, who accomplished systematic metabolic research as the first.

Santorio was likewise first, the precision instruments in the medicine began, in order to be able to accomplish quantitative experiments. Its introduction of the pendulum in the year 1602 in the medicine for the measurement of the pulse rate was probably inspired by its discussions with Galileo Galilei. Its most well-known medical achievement was a balance for the study of the metabolism, which it used also with Galilei. It published also a description of a new kind of thermometer, which could have been inspieriert of Galilei also.
