The Schleimkrankheit is one by the bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum caused illness of the potatoes, which is with priority common in tropical and subtropical countries. Since beginning of the 1990er years the illness is isolated determined in addition, in Europe.

Schadbild

Stricken plants show particularly on hot days a withered one at individual sprouts. Later the entire Kartoffelstaude withers. The sheets become yellow, nekrotisieren, and the plant dies finally. Cut open tubers show a brown discoloration of the from which under pressure of grey-white Bakterienschleim withdraws. Also and Stolone exhibit brown discolorations of the container systems, from which likewise a slimy liquid out-pours. Gotten sick tubers change rapidly into rot.

Propagation

The propagation of the Schleimkrankheit takes place via infected planting property. In addition, contaminated machines and devices as well as potato wastes, which are applied on the field, spread the exciter. Likewise weeds and insects can serve as source of infection. An important role during the transmission comes to the spray irrigation water. From infected weeds on the bank of brooks the bacterium arrives over the irrigation system at the potato fields. The exciter of the Schleimkrankheit can hold itself in the soil over several years.

Fight

A biological or chemical fight of the Schleimkrankheit is not possible. Most important preventive measure is therefore the use of healthy planting property.
