The ash (Fraxinus angustifolia) is a kind of deciduous tree from the kind of the ashes (Fraxinus). It is domestic in south Europe, North Africa and west Asia. In Central Europe she is to be seen now and then in parks.
The ash becomes about 23 m highly. It has a dark grey crust, which shatters at the age by a close network of fine tears in borders. The crown of tree is highly and irregularly and very closely belaubt. The branches are thinly, short and hanging and from more to olive-brown colouring. The buds are darkly magenta brown. The are 15 to 20 cm long and slimmer than those the common ash. Each sheet carries 7 to 13 slim lamellas, which reach a size of 3 to 8 cm and 1 to 2 cm are broad. The lamellas are above, down brighter and bald dark-green. The fruits are oblong, elliptically formed and 3 to 4 cm long.
The breed form "Monophylla" (also "Veltheimii" mentioned) has simple (ungefiederte) sheets and resembles thereby the a sheet ash (F. excelsior cv. "Diversifolia").
