One differentiates different kinds of search such as border search or goal search, which are described in the following. During veil search and raster search it does not concern against it search methods in the actual sense (veil search = person controls, raster search = data alignment).

Persons and things become national (e.g. in the information system of the German Federal Republic of the police (INPOL)), or internationally (e.g. in the European Schengener information system (SIS)) to the search publicized.

Person search

Border search

Border search designates the general or purposeful search at the borders of the Federal Republic of Germany including the domestic flight and seas port. It is part of borderpolice control.

Goal search

Goal search is the regular, active search of the security authorities for selected offenders, who are particularly dangerous or are publicized because of particularly heavy force or Wirtschaftsdelikte ("§"§ 98a, 100a, 110a German StPO).
