Sergeant major OF the Army (SMA) is the highest NCO rank with US Army. There is only in each case a NCO (Non Comissioned Officer), which has this rank.

Tasks

The Sergeant major OF the Army serves OF Staff OF the Army as a superior of the NCO corps of the Army and belongs to the staff of the Chief. He is an advisor in all affairs of service, which concern the NCOs of the Army, in particular in the ranges soldier training and quality of life.

During majority its time is it in the whole Army on the way, supervises the training and speaks with the soldiers and their families.
