The service passport is a passport intended for the transnational travel, which is spent by states on journeys of its representatives in official characteristic (and if necessary along traveler member). At diplomats and other office or political representatives in political function frequently no service passports, but diplomat passports are spent; details handle are different in the individual states.

Service passports can be spent also to own citizens, who are not office-holders, but in the public interest of the state travel (important artists with meetings, which represent the exhibitor state abroad with a meeting).

The exhibition of service passports is regulated in Germany in the regulation over official passports of the Federal Republic of Germany. Just like with diplomat passports only exhibition authority for German service passports is the Foreign Office. Since the exhibition of the service passports takes place alone in the public interest, the regulation plans expressly that on the exhibition no requirement insists.

The possession of a service passport leads, for itself taken, just as little as the possession of a diplomat passport to the immunity (to the reasons see the article to the diplomat passport).

For some service passport holders however the privilege exists that they are released from the visa obligation deviating from the citizens of their state, who show a regular passport ("ยง 19 and plant B of the residence regulation).
