Siemens TS (Transportation of system, in former times traffic engineering) is the division of Siemens, which produces rail-mounted vehicles and course infrastructure systems and rail traffic offers services within the range. Products and services the Siemens TS are used world-wide in long-distance traffic, in the suburban traffic and with industrial railways.

Lines of business

The official lines of business the Siemens TS are called

  • for the rail-mounted vehicles "„Locomotives "“, "„Trains "“and "„measure transit "“,
  • for the course infrastructure systems "„Electrification "“and "„Rail automation "“and
  • for the services "„turn key of system "“and "„Integrated services "“.

Rail-mounted vehicles

With the rail-mounted vehicles Siemens TS locomotives, motor coaches, passenger train cars, streetcars and Metrofahrzeuge for rapid-transit railways and undergrounds offers. With the locomotives the offer covers both electrical (EuroSprinter), and diesel electric locomotives (EuroRunner). Remarkable is also the multi-system locomotive, which permits it to accomplish transportation over national borders also if the countries have different current systems. With the four-system locomotive euro printer ES64 F4 one can drive on 15 countries of the European Union. To the high-quality equipment of the rail-mounted vehicles today for example communication systems between flight compartment and operating guidance center on data and on language basis, flight compartment announcements of the train control system system, emergency brake mechanisms belong when over driving stop a signal and passenger information systems showing in the courses.

Course infrastructure systems

With the course infrastructure systems Siemens TS offers a very broad spectrum. Siemens is based in this area on the conversion world market leader (2004):

  • As the first elements are to be called directly at the drive, like signals, yielding price increase systems, railroad overpasses and track free signalling equipment, as for example axle counters. These elements are nowadays High Tech devices with sophisticated electronics.
  • Further Siemens TS security systems produces such as signal towers, block systems and train control system systems (point and line train control system). With a combined employment of these systems one comes to an optimal security in the Eisenbahnverkehr. With new signal towers nearly only electronic signal towers are used. Only in developing countries - mainly because of the local maintenance - still relay signal towers are installed. With the train control system systems the standardized European Train control system (ETCS) belongs to the scope of supply.
  • For the enterprise of the electric locomotives Siemens TS of traction current systems manufactures and installs railway catenaries.
  • For planning, automation and optimization of traffic Siemens TS planning, operating direction and simulation systems supplies. In the range of the planning, controlling and arrangement of traffic personnel savings up to 90% are possible with these systems. Nevertheless the driving service leaders or planning manager (dispatcher) are relieved with these systems in relation to the earlier activity.
  • Further Siemens TS of management systems for the automation and optimization of large marshalling yards manufactures.
  • Besides Siemens TS produces needed communication systems, like passenger information systems at the distance, on the railway video monitors and course radio systems.
  • For the training of the driving service leaders by Siemens TS training course systems for the operating guidance centers are offered. There both beginners in handling the plant, and experienced driving service leaders in extreme situations can be trained.

Apart from the conventional traffic engineering the following products should be particularly put out:

  • Siemens TS offers the infrastructure systems and the vehicles for "„the Transrapid in the consortium with ThyssenKrupp both "“.
  • As the further courses without driver in the public local passenger traffic, e.g. the product are to be called "„Val automatique more of Siemens TS France or the project RUBY with the traffic enterprises.

Services

Beside products Siemens TS offers also services. In addition servicing contracts for the above systems and products belong. Further Siemens maintains a Lokomotivvermietung ("„Dispolok "“) and accomplishes the planning and integration of ready for occupancy new building distances. Also financings of larger railway projects can be contributed directly by Siemens. For training courses within the range traffic engineering maintains Siemens TS one "„Rail automation Academy "“(in former times "„school for traffic engineering "“) and a "“Rolling stick Academy"”, which offers a broad course spectrum for internal and partial external training courses together as "“TS Academy"”.

Specification of the products and services

History of the rail-mounted vehicles

This range has a long tradition with Siemens, then of Werner von Siemens was already presented to 1865 on the citizens of Berlin industrial show the first electrical locomotive. 1881 were opened - likewise of Siemens built - the first electrical streetcar in Berlin light field. With Siemens a motor coach was reached 1903 the then unbelievable speed of 201 km/h, a record, which remained unequalled on decades.

Today's vehicles

Siemens manufactures today a whole pallet of streetcars - among other things the Combino, locomotives and among them the series 152 and 189 of the railways AG and parts of the ICE courses, also with slope technology. The ICE is sold also at Spain. There it runs under the registered trade mark VelaroE registered by Siemens, and connects starting from 2006 the cities Barcelona and Madrid. In November 2005 a contract was signed over 60 high-speed courses for China. These courses are based on the Velaro and are to a large extent locally produced.

A further registered registered trade mark is the Desiro, which to different English course companies, as for example at South west Trains goes. In the year 2006 also courses for Bangkok are built. With the German course AG the Desiro is procured as series 642 in large numbers of items. The in Austria acquired also some vehicles, calls these it series 5022. The Desiro is sold to Bulgaria (BDZ series 9552) also to Denmark, Romania (CFR series 96), Hungary (MAV series 6342), Greece (OSE series 660), Slovenia (sp EMG 312), different German private railway companies and into the USA (NCTD Sprinter).
