The silver beech of New Zealand (Nothofagus menziesii) belongs to the beech-well-behaved (Fagales) to the kind of the illusory beeches, in that of the illusory beech plants (Nothofagaceae) within that.

Description

The silver beech of New Zealand is an evergreen tree made of New Zealand. The kind is not winter hard in Central Europe, but in England in the mild parks of the Cornwall this deciduous tree up to 19 m becomes high. The young trees are slim and pale-grey belaubt. The evergreen sheets are nearly circular, about 1 x 1 cm and at young plants nearly silvery, at old trees however darkly shine-green.
