The company Simson was created 1856 by the two Jewish brothers and Moses Simson in the Thuringian city Suhl.
Basis was a steel hammer, which was created 1841 by Andreas's farmer and by the brothers Simson in the year 1854 was purchased. The production of charcoal steel kept running, the product however soon for the production of weapons was used. The first bicycles, which resembled English models, drove starting from 1896 on German roads and the company Simson became soon one of the large bicycle producers.

After the German reunification Simson was completed by the trust establishment, but immediately again again based as Suhler vehicle work GmbH.
The Mokickbaureihen was modernized and one engaged themselves in the automotive manufacture, by producing the viersitzige electric road vehicle developed in Ibach in the Hotzenwald named "Hotzenblitz EL-sport ". However the model was manufactured only in a small series of 140 pieces, since there were hardly prospective buyers.
After several almost insolvencies the company had to finally announce insolvency on 28 June 2002; the firm possession was auctioneered in May 2003. The spare part supply is for the time being secured by various partial dealers. One the main buyer is a wholesale dealer, who produces meanwhile also again individual parts in Suhl.
Simsonfreunde from completely Germany meet meanwhile once in the year to the gentleman Mr. (Vatertag/Christi Ascension Day) for 3 days in Suhl. 2006 is expected more than 1000 participants.
