The software Design Description (SDD) is standard published by IEEE (institutes OF Electrical and electronics Engineers) under (ANSI/IEEE Std 1016-1998), which specifies, how a program Design is to be specified.
The SDD document is a representation of a software system, which is used, in order to communicate to software Design information. It covers substantial parts of the development requirement (D-requirement). It describes the architecture of the software and/or the overall system and the individual components. A SDD is provided usually only with larger projects, and/or, where the architecture has crucial influence on the software. With smaller projects it is usual to make the Design directly in the D-requirement part of the software requirement Specification (SRS). The description of the Design should not cover any more than 3 sides, otherwise it recommends to provide itself a SDD.
