The Spinnmilben (Tetranychidae) belong to the subordination Astigmata of the order of the mites and are plant juice Auger, whose suction activity is limited to the epidermis cells of the sheets. They are tiny and usually only with the magnifying glass recognizable.

Spinnmilben occur world-wide. Some Spinnmilben are serious parasits, as for instance the red spider (Metatetranychus/Panonychus ulmi), the common Spinnmilbe (Tetranychus urticae) or the lime tree spin mite (Eotetranychus tiliarum).

Schadbild

The aggressive parasits spread within a short time in great quantities and cover usually the blade lower surfaces with a fine Gespinst. They exhaust the sheet cells, so that from above a lightsilvery, translucent point sample develops, until the sheets finally wither. Dry air and high temperatures promote the propagation of these parasits, which endanger above all cucumbers and beans.

Vorbeugung and fight

High air humidity and good aeration are in the greenhouse a good preventive measure. Already with small infestation one should use robbery mites.
