Sundacarpus amarus is the only tree species in the monotypical kind Sundacarpus from that the (Podocarpaceae). Synonymous ones for the kind are: Podocarpus sect. Sundacarpus, Stachycarpus sect. Sundacarpus, and Prumnopitys section Sundacarpus. Synonymous ones for the kind are: Podocarpus amarus, Nageia amara, Stachycarpus amarus, Prumnopitys amara, Podocarpus eurhynchus, Nageia eurhyncha, Podocarpus dulcamarus, and Podocarpus pedunculatus. The kind names amarus = bitterly and in former times dulcamarus = bitter-sweetly refer to those bitterly and/or bitterly and tasting sweet sheets.
The spreading is enough from Australia: Northeast coast of Queensland (main the Atherton Tafelland on basal tables soils in altitudes of 600 to 1200 m NN), over new Guinea (there very frequent), the Molukken (Buru, Halmaheira, Morotai), the small Sunda islands (Timor, Flores, western Sumbawa, Lombok), by Java, central and southwest Celebes (Bonthain), the Philippines (Mindanao, Luzon), in Borneo only in Sabah, until Sumatra.
