Sushruta or Susruta was an Indian physician.

Sushruta probably lived in early 6. Jh. v.Chr. It described about 300 operations and 121 operation instruments. Under the operations, which he described, star, break, Steinschnitt, Kaiserschnitt etc. of instruments is which it described is among other things probes, pliers, Lanzetten, and catheters. It transferred also skin from other body places to a damaged ear and developed nose plastics.

The book Susruta Samhita probably originates from the time around 350 n.Chr and decreases/goes back on Susruta. It became before the end 8. Jh. in the Arab translates. Into latin it was translated by Hassler and into German by Ullers.
