Under the name Swiss Birnbaum is acted the wood of the tree species pear (both the fruit trees and the game pear), the Elsbeere and the Speierlings. It is a valuable and usually hochpreisiges wood assortment, which can be used for carpenter, Drechsel and carving work. Those qualities, which can be converted to veneer, are particularly valuable.

The name "“Swiss Birnbaum"” therefore agitates that in the past a majority of the wood of Mostbirnen cultivated in Switzerland came. By in the last decades the Birnenmostkonsum decreased/gone back this portion is however declining.

The wood of Elsbeere and Speierling can be marketed also under its own name and is then tendentious still more wertvolller (to over 10.000 more "€/Festmeter). Since these tree species are very rarely and ecologically very valuable however, so little wood results that often no own market can be formed.
