Legal situation

Germany

The cultivation of sleep poppy was forbidden (and is) in many states. The inclusion of the cultivation of poppy into the meant the sudden end of the acquisition-moderate cultivation of poppy, before that the 2 in Germany. Austria

In contrast to Germany the cultivation of the sleep poppy is permitted in Austria and looks on a long tradition back, which goes back into the resounding place time. The Austrian cultivated area of poppy amounted to in the year 2004 approximately 1,700 hectares. Main cultivation areas are the northern upper and Lower Austria (forest quarter). While in upper Austria mainly are cultivated to blue poppy places, the forest quarter is famous for its grosssamigen grey poppy.
