A technology park or a Technopark is a place, at which a common infrastructure is put to selected young enterprises from the technology sector at the disposal.

Technology center

The core of such a technology park is usually a technology center. That is a building complex, in which many recent enterprises co-operate. They all e.g. belong to future-oriented industries, like microelectronics, computer science, the communications technology or the computer technology. These complement each other well. Also the enterprises receive often commercial or financial support, which the risks make smaller with the starting phase of an enterprise.

Technology park

If the enterprises became generally accepted then on the market, can evacuate themselves the enterprises from the technology park and establish its own business building. Typical characteristics of a technology park are:

• uniform building method
• a fixed minimum land development of properties
• many green areas
• very good traffic route
• Proximity to training centres (e.g. universities)
• Synergies for enterprises involved

The enterprises profit from the advantages of the location factors. Specialists are fast available and within the technology park can many co-operation between the companies be manufactured. That is possible, since the enterprises of a park mostly are active within the same branch of technology and therefore the ways between the company headquarters are extremely small. Large enterprises, as for example the Siemens AG, operate even own Technoparks over from co-operation with rising companies to profit.
