Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus of high home (it called itself Paracelsus, probably after the Roman physician Celsus) was born at the end of the yearly 1493 in a settling (Switzerland) and died after moved life on 24 September 1541 in Salzburg.

Knowing and working the important physician, Alchemisten, Mystikers and philosopher Paracelsus are considered as extremely comprehensive. Its healing successes were at that time unequalled, registered to him in addition, the embittered opposition of the established medical profession and pharmacists. Were intensified of them would start by additional, often biting criticisms on the part of the Paracelsus at the prevailing Lehrmeinung of the four-juice teachings after Galen and the bare book wisdom medical scholar at that time. Paracelsus left numerous German-language recordings and books of medical, philosophical and theological contents, which appeared to a large extent only after its death.

Life

Paracelsus was born as a son of the physician, natural scientist and Alchemisten William Bombast of high home with '' the devil bridge '' to the Sihl in the proximity of the place a settling in Switzerland. At the beginning of the yearly 1502 Paracelsus came as a eight-year old boy, who had to hurt the early death of the nut/mother, to Villach into where the father worked as a physician. In the urban latin school of Villach Paracelsus learned vintages and letters. There are some references on the fact that he visited soon thereafter also the latin school of the Benediktinerstifts pc. Paul in the Lavanttal.

In the age of 16 years it took up the study of the medicine at the university to Basel. About twelve moving years of the young Theophrastus followed. Thereby stays are proven with well-known Alchemisten such as Sigmund of chat and abbott Bruno count von Spanheim. 1510 attained Paracelsus in Vienna the degree of a Bakkalaureus of the medicine. After a brief stay in Ferrara for acquisition in the year 1516 led it the following work as Wundarzt by large parts of Europe. Into this time the change of name of the Theophrastus fell to Paracelsus. It established itself 1524/25 in Salzburg, made themselves unpopular by its social vein, which let it support the insurgent ones in the farmer war, with the archbishop and left Salzburg soon again. The first larger contentious appearances in the academic surrounding field are proven to mash gau and Strasbourg around 1525 at the universities to Freiburg in. Into this time the falling following appointment to the Consiliarius of Basel made possible regular handling and exchange of ideas with human such as Erasmus of Rotterdam, for Wolfgang Lachner or also Johannes Oekolampadius. In the years 1527-1528 Paracelsus held lectures as Baseler city physician and with authorization to teach at the medical faculty for the first time - against customs at that time exclusively in German language, because "„the truth had to be only German taught "“. This circumstance and during its training stated the violent criticisms to the physician and pharmacist shank resulted in libellous pamphlets against Paracelsus up to openly stated threats approximately life and limb. Before threatening legal proceedings offering no prospects for Paracelsus it fled in February 1528 into the Elsass. Again moving years followed; first pupils stepped into the life of the Paracelsus. 1529 finished Paracelsus the books Paramirum and Paragranum as well as a number of further smaller writings of medical contents, which were not published however. The coronation/culmination of its efforts is that 1537 finished writing work Astronomia Magna (also well-known as Philosophia Sagax). Probably by appointment of prince Ernst, Pfalzgraf to Rhine and duke in Bavaria, pulled Paracelsus 1541 to Salzburg, where he died on 24 September 1541 under unsettled circumstances. Paracelsus was buried at the Sebastiansfriedhof in Salzburg.

The medical theories of the Paracelsus

Bases

The medicine after Paracelsus has to be based on nature and God realization. To understand the things and concomitantly the diseases and their correct treatment on the one hand empirical findings are, on the other hand - and by far more importantly - the view of the large one and whole one necessarily: "„Humans can be seized only from the macrocosm [universalistic], not from itself out. Only the knowledge around this agreement completes the physician "“(Opus Paramirum). For Paracelsus the material body is only a part of the complete body non-visible for the usual viewer to large parts. Who however by constant work actually (internal transformation) illuminating, the fire became teilhaftig, that knew the world with other eyes, i.e. "„in the light to see and only to that also for the physician would be suited to nature "“(Opus Paramirum), because "„it is missed to draw in the medicine its knowledge of hearing legends and vintages"… the natural force in the fire was also our instructor "“and "„the fire however makes visible, what otherwise in the darkness is. According to this method the science is to be spoken "“(Opus Paramirum). For successful practice it requires the medical art after Paracelsus apart from the grace of God of the knowledge and control of vierer partial disciplines. In addition those count

  • Philosophy (truthfulness; not to confound with the philosophy of the modern trend): "„One the one philosopher to be and wrong one protect themselves wants, who must give such a basis to its philosophy that he summarizes skies and earth in a Mikrokosmos "“,
  • Astronomy (science of the internal Gestirnen; not to confound with the astronomical science of the modern trend): "„So now humans in its whole composition to be understood are, by each physician, then it knows now that the astronomy is the second reason and the upper sphere of philosophy represents "“,
  • Alchemie: "„Nature is so subtle and sharp in its things that it may not be used without large art. Because it does not bring anything to the day, which would be completed for itself, but humans must complete it. This completion is called Alchemia "“and
  • Proprietas (probity): "„Around it the physician of the people is to possess faith, then he has him also with God "“.

Over the causes of the diseases

The theories and remarks of the Paracelsus to the causes of the diseases speak of five main kinds of disease influences (also as Entia designates):

  • Ens Astorum or Ens Astrale (the
  • Ens Veneni (by the body taken up "„poison "“),
  • Ens Naturale (predetermination; Constitution),
  • Ens of mirror-image rituals (influence "„of the spirit "“),
  • Ens Dei (direct influence of God).

After Paracelsus each illness can be attributed to or several of these causes. For example so the effect of a poison (Ens Veneni) can be strengthened, if it meets a weak constitution (Ens Naturale). For providing a correct diagnosis the physician must consider therefore the whole of all five Entia.

The interpretation of the remarks of the Paracelsus is the subject of frequent discussion of the representatives of traditional and alternative medicine.

Over the treatment and healing of the diseases

Apart from the demand and refinement Paracelsus of the signature teachings for finding cure carriers and alchimistischer techniques availed itself of delivered welfare methods for the extraction of the active substances contained in it. The basis of the signature teachings or theory over "„anatomy in the things of the micro and macrocosm "“forms the principle of the analogy relations (correspondentia) between humans (the Mikrokosmos) and world (the macrocosm), originating from hermetic philosophy. Thus already certain outside characteristics would permit such as form and color of plants conclusions on their effect. For example are to work blooms against heart diseases, roots against the of the Aussatzes and stachelige thistles against stinging in the chest.

The cures are to be prepared for the sexes accordingly. Except for few exceptions are to be given to men and women therefore sex-specific medicines.

Paracelsus today

In the year 1952 the presidency of the German congress of physicians donated the Paracelsus medal as the highest honor of the German medical profession for earned physicians.

2001 took up the Paracelsus medical private university Salzburg their enterprise designated after Paracelsus.
