Differently than with a conventional saw with a thermal saw the material which can be sawed is melted. Therefore this is suitable only for (at relatively small temperatures) fusible materials such as foams of thermoplastic plastics, wax or ice.

Its main application finds the thermal saw in the architecture model construction, in the airplane model construction (bearing area production) and during the looking advertising organization when working on foam polystyrene.

The most important element of the thermal saw is a metal wire - mostly from Konstantan. This is flowed through directly by a river and heats up thereby on the desired work temperature. For the current supply mostly a is used, so that inadvertent affecting of the wire without larger consequences remains. More complex models have repeatedly additionally a fan for the ventilation of the hot wire - over an overheating of the same in the not cutting places to work against.

Styrocut (label name for a thermal saw), hot wire cut equipment, polystyrene cutter, foam cutter
