In the industrial safety becomes a danger, which cannot be excluded by technical measures, when residual risk designates.

The threshold risk designates the border of "“generally accepted"” dangers, which belong to a certain activity, e.g. because it relatively rarely occurs (current accident with electrical specialists) or only small damage cause (with the hammer on the finger strike) and by laws and regulations specified, e.g. by the indication of limit values.

Example

As soon as a car is moved, it places an endangerment there. Everyone by the car to be started can is in danger (70% of the victims). The residual risk would be directly zero, one the car stand would let. Since this would be however not generally accepted, the legislator specified threshold risks. They are called speed limitings and their observance are to lead to the fact that damage frequency and damage weight remain limited to "“acceptable measure"”. For the adherence to the limit value everyone is responsible and is controlled it by the executive. The "“acceptable measure"” is a "“political value"”, which lies at present in Germany with approx. 7000 traffic deads per year.

The damage events are generally called accident (traffic accident) and in statistics seizes (accident statistics). The frequentnesses for different causes and/or effects is often listed separately.
