Total metal is the short form for the employers' associations of the metal and electrical industry, the union of the national employers' associations of the metal and electrical industry.

The roof federation total metal represents the common and spreading interests of the M+E enterprises on federal level as lobbyist. Total metal is member at the Federal union of the German employers' associations (Federal Employers Association) in Berlin and represents over the Federal Employers Association central request of the employers in relation to government and federal politics. The tasks of an employers' association are not particularly on the fields of the tariff, social and education politics and the special main points of work of a country wide industry roof federation such as total metal in the conception and co-ordination of common activities of the federations and in the contact care to political institutions and to the media on Bundesebene.Dabei usually close total metal as roof federation collective agreements with the trade unions.
