Here the safety device of special proofs is meant; besides there is also person proof, with which it does not concern however a technical term.

The trace safety device is a part of the analysis attack in the context "„of the first attack "“. A trace safety device contains the tracing, the trace collection (Ausnumerierung, manufacturing of images [e.g. photographically, three-dimensional]) and the trace evaluation (for example trace situation, trace comparison). The trace safety device begins with the so-called scene work. It takes its course with evaluations (e.g. investigation, comparison traces) and ends with the unification from article and person traces to articles and suspects.

The elementary task of the preservation of evidence comes to the trace safety device, i.e. the fact that before court relevant indications and proof are subject to strict control and accordingly expertly must be treated.

There are different techniques within the trace safety device, for example the Daktyloskopie (admission and evaluation of finger marks), admission "„of the genetic finger mark "“and proof of blood (for example with Luminol).

With scene situations it must be paid attention to the fact that no new traces are set. Therefore carry for trace-safe protective clothing (frequent Tyvek and close the scene for other policemen and naturally also look-merry.

Interpretation of the result

The result of a DNA test, a finger mark or an other trace alone cannot decide on debt or Nichtschuld a suspecting. It is rated only as indication, which must be supplemented by further. Many suspicious ones however a confession placing, if one confronted it with the result.

If that is not the case, the result must be interpreted, whereby false conclusions are not to be excluded.

Example

The laboratory compares two DNA samples, a suspecting and at the scene the found. It reports that both samples agree coincidental with a probability of 1:1.000,000. This states however nothing else, one finds millions under humans one with such an coincidence agreement.

The author circle can be limited due to indications (sex, probable stay in the proximity) to 10 humans, it gives thus 10 humans with a coincidental agreement. The probability that the suspicious author of the trace is 1:10, and not 1.000.000: 1. (). It is inadmissible regarding the probability to judge from two agreeing coincidental samples a probability of author.

Execution

In Germany here "„the guidance scene work, traces "“(ATOS) and the manual No. 385 ("„scene work, traces "“) is relevant.

For scenes in the free one folding pavilions (trace tent) for reasons of the Sichtschutzes (e.g. press, curious one) have themselves, the enclosure (precipitation, wind) and for the purpose of the trace protection works satisfactorily.
