A transport vehicle without driver (FTF) is a corridor-bound conveyance with own drives, which is steered automatically and led contactlessly. FTF serve the materials handling, for pulling and/or carrying material to be conveyed with active or passive load photograph means.

The English designation reads Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV).

Transport systems without driver (FTS) are in-plant, corridor-bound haulage systems with automatically steered vehicles, whose primary task is the materials handling, not however the transportation of passengers. They are inserted within and outside by buildings and exist essentially out

  • one or more transport vehicles without driver (FTF),
  • a master controller,
  • Mechanisms for the locating and situation collection,
  • Mechanisms to the data communication as well as
  • Infrastructure and peripheral mechanisms.

Motivation for the employment of FTS

In production and distribution enterprises there is the demand for many years after short turn-around times, small existence and high flexibility. For the reaching of these goals various organizational measures and the employment of technical means are possible and/or necessary. In the range of technical-operational logistics there is the processes and operational funds of in-plant flow of material, which must be arranged suitable. An important process in-line is transporting (S.A. conveying engineering), thus the purposeful change of location of goods. Operational funds, which are used for this because of its universal ranges of application in almost all enterprises, are the conventional fork-lift truck and/or its "„small brother "“, the fork elevating truck platform ("„ant "“).

Apart from its many undisputed advantages manual transport in addition, disadvantages have, therefore automation solutions for in-plant transporting of goods exist. Automated transport offers the among other things following advantages in relation to manual transport:

  • organized material and information flow; this leads directly productivity-increasing transparency that in-plant operational sequence
  • at any time punctual and calculable transportation procedures
  • Minimization of fear supplies and waiting existence
  • Decrease of the personnel connection in transport, thereby lowering of the personnel expenditure (in particular with the multi-shift operation)
  • Minimization of transport damages and false supplies, thereby avoidance of subsequent costs
  • high availability and reliability

A very important, related to value however only with difficulty detectable criterion is the flexibility, i.e. the easy adaptability of a transport system to changed outside transport system without driver is one of numerous possibilities of automating the transportation process offers however in the comparison with all other techniques the advantage of the largest flexibility.

Classification into the conveying engineering

Before the background of logistic setting of tasks an organization appears meaningful after fields of deployment and/or according to the criterion mode of conveyance:

Classification of transport systems
continuous transportintermittent transport
Piping system for gaseous, liquid or firm bulk materialVehicle system transport of the cargo in transportation units with own drive on a unpowered transportation net
Volume conveyor plant for mass bulk material (e.g. Sand, ore, coal)Haulage system transport of the cargo with or without charge carriers on a propelled transportation net

In the case of restriction on case of application intermittent transport can be made with the promotion and vehicle systems a further differentiation after the characteristic corridor-free and/or corridor-bound transport. The following table calls some typical representatives of the respective group:

Advantages with the employment of FTS

The above mentioned transport systems differ concerning their technical characteristics and abilities in various way, which are here not continued to regard (for details for this S. conveying engineering). Under the automated transport systems transport systems without driver apply as the solution with the largest flexibility. For the evaluation of the flexibility degree of a haulage system are the among other things following criteria of importance:

  • Integration ability into existing structures
  • Transport of different goods
  • Possibility for changes of layout
  • Shifting barness of the haulage system
  • Adjustment to varying transportation requirements
  • Change of the promotion sequence
  • Adjustment to an increasing degree of automation

A transport system without driver fulfills all these criteria.

Further characteristics of a FTS positively which can be evaluated, which can be still exceeded however in individual cases - not however in the whole - by other conveyances:

  • Improvement of the working environment: secure and more pleasant conditions of work by arranged operational sequence, clean and quiet transportation procedures
  • high precision with automatic load delivery/assumption
  • slight infrastructure measures
  • easy realization of crossings and branchpoints
  • Transport outside of resounding possible
  • Multiple usage of the promotion level possible
  • Application type of a spare conveyance (fork-lift truck)
  • Suitability both for small and for large room heights
  • high transparency of the promotion happening
  • Usually no additional traffic area requirements
  • Use of existing drives
  • Interior and external employment possible
  • various auxiliary functions integrable
