Traffic law is road law in the broader sense. In the air traffic traffic law designates the international regulations those the airlines is entitled, sees also liberties of air.

The road law is not traffic law, determines it however as "right at the road "and belonged therefore to the public thing right. The road law is priority right, which is as a rule federal state law (road law), Federal Law only in the range of the federal highways (federal highways and motorways, federal highway law). It determines the use of the road in the context of the dedication. The dedication plans several Gebrauchsformen: the Gemeingebrauch, the adjoining owner use, the public special use and the civil special use. Responsible authority is always the road construction load carrier.
The traffic right (when "right on the road ") against it is on the one hand bound to the dedication of the road after road law. It refers to the regulation of security and ease of traffic on the road. On the other hand it applies in addition, everywhere, where a traffic surface for the public is accessible, where thus in other words public traffic takes place, for example on parking lots or multi-storey car parks of department stores.
Additionally to the national regulations there are intergovernmental (usually bilateral) agreements, which regulate above all the person and goods transport on the road. Thus the international agreement over motor traffic from 24 April 1926 in the German right appears as IntKfzV.
Substantial regulation subjects are the traffic law (StVG), road traffic regulations (StVO), the Motor Vehicles Regulations (StVZO) and the driving licence regulation (FeV). The traffic right is thereby typical order right, which is determined by Federal Law. Responsible authority is the traffic authority.
