Ulisse Aldrovandi (* 11 September 1522 in Bologna; "† 4. May 1605 ebd. ; also admits as Ulysses Aldrovandus) was an Italian physician and natural scientist.

Life

Ulisse Aldrovandi learned first the buyer handicraft and studied thereafter in Bologna medicine. Starting from 1560 he was a professor at the there university. 1568 it created the Botani garden in this city. It in honours those received its botanischen generic name Aldrovanda to case of water.

Beside Conrad Gesner applies for Ulisse Aldrovandi as one the founder of the modern Zoologie. Above all its very much detailed systematic investigations announced it.

The Hauptwerk of Ulisse Aldrovandi is of eleven volumes existing the "“Historia animalium"”, from that the three volumes over the birds ("“Ornithologia"”) became famous particularly as addition of Gesners likewise as "“Historia animalium"” marked work. In the "“Historia Monstrorum"” describes Aldrovandi details a set of fabulous creatures, which were regarded at its time as existent, among them for instance the Kentauren originating from the Greek mythology, the Satyr and the A third well-known work is "“De Monstris"”), in whom it treats different deformations of humans.
