The university law 2002 (UG 2002) is a Austrian Federal law, with which the entire university nature was again arranged into Austria. For the first time it was kundgemacht in the federal law gazette I No. 120/2002.
The UG 2002 replaced on the one hand from organizational view the university organization law 1993 (Federal law over the organization of the Universities of, UOG 1993) and the art university University of (Federal law over the organization of the universities of the arts, KUOG), on the other hand from study-legal view the university studies law (UniStG) from the year 1997.
It came into force with 1 October 2002, with exception of the study-legal part, which stepped on 1 January 2004 into force, and some Nebenbestimmungen.
With the UG 2002 among other things three new universities were established, which developed all together from former medical faculties: the medical University of Vienna, the medical University of Graz and the medical University of Innsbruck.
