The VOLKSWAGEN Fox Brazil 1980

1979 developed the Polo designer Dipl.Ing. Phillip Schmidt the Fox/Gol row. It developed a mixture between Polo and gulf, with air-cooled engine for the Brazilian and later South American market than successors for the beetle.

The first VOLKSWAGEN Fox was a small car, which was manufactured starting from 1980 in Brazil under the designation VOLKSWAGEN Gol. On other overseas markets one used the designation VOLKSWAGEN Fox. It had first an air-cooled double-piston engine. This car is a technical Sammelsurium from VOLKSWAGEN and AUDI components, e.g. the understructure of the AUDI 80 B1, AUDI 80 B2 and different one. There was a steep tail version (Fox station Wagon) similarly as with the VOLKSWAGEN Polo II, in addition, a notchback version, whose Design reminded of the VOLKSWAGEN Jetta I. The body had however its own appearance. The Fox was exported with water-cooled row engine also from 1986 to 1992 into the USA, however never arrived at the European market.

The VOLKSWAGEN Fox South Africa 1982

Under the name VOLKSWAGEN Fox was manufactured and offered starting from 1982 in South Africa in Europe under the name VOLKSWAGEN Jetta I well-known the notchback variant VOLKSWAGEN gulf I. It was based on the VOLKSWAGEN Citi gulf and had also its modified front portion, which against the VOLKSWAGEN gulf II was ajar.

The VOLKSWAGEN Fox 2005

The VOLKSWAGEN Fox (English for fox), manufactured in Brazil, is available the successor VOLKSWAGEN of the Lupo and since 29 April 2005 in Germany at prices starting from 8.950 "€. Thus VOLKSWAGEN wants to offer a relatively low-priced car; the VOLKSWAGEN Lupo was more expensive between 2.000 and 5.000 euro. To what extent this strategy will come up Volkswagen company, is however questionable considering the meager standard of this vehicle.

So far the Fox in this country is sold only as while in Latin America also a variant is available. For 2006 Volkswagen plans further the introduction one with Offroad optics provided VOLKSWAGEN Fox, which is to come under the name CrossFox on the market. In Brazil the VOLKSWAGEN Fox as well as the model variant CrossFox is already sold. In addition a VOLKSWAGEN Fox plus is planned for 2006 of VOLKSWAGEN, which is to become a Micro Van like the Renault mode or Mitsubishi Colt. The predecessor VOLKSWAGEN Lupo was produced as special model Lupo 3L TDI and Lupo GTI still until spring 2005.

Also an equipment variant of the Polo II was well-known as Fox. Except by the equally spartanischen equipment extent this is not to be confounded with the today's VOLKSWAGEN Fox.

In Mexico the Fox is sold since 2004 as VOLKSWAGEN Lupo, since the present president Vicente Fox Quesada is called.
