The VOLKSWAGEN Santana was since 1981 a model of the Wolfsburger of autocompany Volkswagen. It develops 1980-1980 VOLKSWAGEN trade wind (Volkswagen row B2, type 32B) on the platform, possesses however a classical notchback. Further distinguishers to the trade wind were another radiator grille with integrated turn signals as well as the chrome decoration and the elevated equipment. Despite its undisputed qualities (trunk, purchase price) the Santana could not plan-salespay fulfill, so that it was sold starting from 1985 as VOLKSWAGEN trade wind and was finally completely adjusted. This was reliably because of the fact that the exterior of the Santana worked rather inharmoniously and appeared very put on the notchback. Also the Santana should be positioned at the beginning of higher than the trade wind, which however already defeated the outside similarity to the trade wind.
Nevertheless one knows the Santana at the basis lying concept, differently than with the VOLKSWAGEN Derby and with the VOLKSWAGEN Jetta, not when failed regard, because since 1988 is the VOLKSWAGEN trade wind only as notchback model (as it were than Santana successors) and than Variant available. That was surely because of it, the Santana/trade wind notchback against a legend frequently which can be heard better sold itself than the diagonal tail variant. In 5.7 years construction period for nearly as much Santana/trade wind notchback was built as in 7.5 years trade wind By this criterion one can also understand that the finished developed diagonal tail variant of the trade wind found the way to the buyer starting from never 1988. Completely differently the development in Brazil and China ran. VOLKSWAGEN DO Brasil manufactures the Santana also today still, however as easily changed VOLKSWAGEN Santana 2000 (version facegeliftete clearly).
In China the Santana becomes and starting from 1995 the Santana 2000 (the Santana 2000 developed for one in co-operation with VOLKSWAGEN DO Brasil and has in relation to its Brazilian counterpart around 11 cm extended wheel base) since 1985 both, since 2004 as Facelift under the designation Santana 3000, of the Shanghai Volkswagen, a Joint venture manufactured of VOLKSWAGEN with the company SAIC, which enjoys above all as of taxis of large popularity. This lies also in a legal minimum size of the capacity justified by 1,6L for taxis. This law was inserted in some provinces, in order to protect the china VOLKSWAGEN against domestic competitors, that were available only with less capacity. In China and Brazil there is the Santana also as Variant, it corresponds to the German VOLKSWAGEN trade wind Variant. In Brazil the Variant is not called Santana, but quantity, the production quantity in Brazil was stopped however 2003. A production end of the Santana is not yet into Sicht.Die among other things in the USA offered version of the Santana called itself VOLKSWAGEN quantity.
Occasionally the Santana was produced like also its smaller brother VOLKSWAGEN Jetta of Nissan in Japan.
