It is in series equipped, optional with five seats can in a concealable third number of two further places be made available. The Touran is available with petrol engines of 75 KW (102 HP) to 110 KW (150 HP) and diesel engines of 66 KW (90 HP) up to 125 KW (170 HP). The 2,0 litres of diesel engines with 140 and 170PS are available also with direct transmission (DSG).

Based on the understructure of the gulf of the fifth generation with independent suspension in front and in the back, the innovative direct transmission DSG can be ordered when desired with the two strongest diesel engines with 77 KW and 103 KW. In addition further extras are orderable, from the automatically dipping the headlights inside mirror to the xenon light. The equipment lines VOLKSWAGEN route to are divided into the basic equipment "“Conceptline"”, the extended version "“trend LINE"” and the Topausstattung "“Highline"”. To the Grundaustattung belong among other things: CD radio, Tempomat, ESP and 8 Airbags.

The Touran is in Germany the best-selling car of its class since beginning of the yearly 2004.

On basis since spring 2004 the fourth generation VOLKSWAGEN of the Caddy is offered to the gulf understructure as box car and with high-quality equipment than Caddy Life with almost identical front portion. In contrast to the gulf and/or Touran however the Caddy conceived as commercial motor vehicle and the Caddy Life have in the back a Starrachse.

For January 06 there is the first route on special model: The Touran Goal. Among other things with air conditioning system, light alloy wheels and navigation system

Starting from at the beginning of 2006 there is to be also a natural gas version. The Touran EcoFuel called thereby "“quasi monovalent"”. The drive is optimized for the natural gas enterprise. However additionally approx. a 15l large gasoline tank is to the driver at the disposal.
