Walter Reed (* 13 September 1851 in Belroi, Virginia; "† 22 November 1902 in Washington) was an US-American bacteriologist.

Since 1893 he was a professor in Washington.

Reed discovered that the yellow fever will transfer not by direct contact, but by the pass of a mosquito (Aedes aegypti).

By introduction of mosquito nets it contributed to the containment of the illness.
