Werner Otto Theodor Forssmann (* 29 August 1904 in Berlin; "† 1 June 1979 in tuft home) was a German physician, who can be considered as inventors of the heart catheter. In late acknowledgment of its work it kept the Nobelpreis for medicine for its discoveries common on 18 October 1956, with Frdric Cournand and Dickinson Woodruff Richards, to the Herzkatheterisierung and to the pathological changes in the circulation system.

Work

After the medicine study at the citizens of Berlin Friedrich William university, the today's Humboldt university, Forssmann worked as Assistenzarzt in the August Victoria hospital in Eberswalde. Here it led in the spring 1929, 25-year old and after appropriate patient attempts had been rejected, its self attempt to the Herzkatheterisierung through. It pushed itself of the Armvene out a rubber hose up to the right Herzkammer and documented this with a radiograph. On 5 November its work was published over the sounding of the right heart, however - similarly as in April 1931 its lecture on the conference of the German society for surgery - in the professional world hardly found resonance.

1958 received a chief physician post of the surgical department of the Evangelist hospital in Duesseldorf to Forssmann, where he was active up to its retirement. Besides the universities of Mainz (1956) had it, (Argentina) (1961) and Duesseldorf (1964) appointed the fee professor.

When it 1977 the medical faculty of the Humboldt university lent, it meant in the Laudatio: "„To it belongs the historical merit/service, beside the Herzkatheterisierung also the contrast central representation of the heart to have discovered and their Gefahrlosigkeit for humans to have actually proven.

Professor Dr. Werner Forssmann spent its retirement in pointed. It died on 1 June 1979 in tuft home.
